The men’s first team were unlucky to fall to a 2–1 defeat to Barcelona on Tuesday night, having put in a good performance. You can read the match report here and see the highlights here.

Indeed, both manager Javi Calleja and defender Pau Torres spoke to the press after the match, and believed that the Yellows deserved more. You can read what Calleja had to say here and what Torres had to say here.

The match also saw historic moments for two players. Santi Cazorla reached 300 first-team games for the club, while Moi Gómez reached 100 first-team games for the club. Cazorla’s goal also saw him become the Yellows’ fifth highest-goalscorer of all time.

Moving away from the men’s first team and Villarreal U23s are in action in the Premier League International Cup against Dinamo Zagreb tonight (kick-off 8pm Spanish time). You can read about the competition and the squad who have travelled to England here. The match will be streamed live on YouTube by Dinamo Zagreb here if you want to watch, or keep up to date on our English-language Twitter feed @Eng_Villarreal.

We also have good news in terms of international call-ups from our youth sides, with Andrei Ratiu being called up by Romania U21s and Iker Alvárez being named in the Andorra U19s squad.
