Well that was an emotional Sunday. We said goodbye to two Yellows legends who are leaving Villarreal. Club captain Bruno Soriano, after fighting back from an injury that kept him off the fields is retiring, while the magical midfielder Santi Cazorla is heading to Al Sadd. Bruno is a one-club man, the player with most appearances in Villarreal history — 425. You can read his story here. Cazorla puts an end to his second spell at the club after returning from Arsenal two seasons ago. He played a total of 334 games for the Yellows, and is the third top goalscorer for the club in the elite of Spanish football — with 57. You can read his great story in our Medium post from 2018 here. After the game, they held a press conference with president Fernando Roig to explain their reasons for leaving and say goodbye to the fans. You can see that here. After the game, it was also announced that they will be the first two players in the soon to be inaugurated ‘hall of fame’ for Villarreal legends. More on that here.
